The Maison internationale des arts de la marionnette (MIAM), which will be located at 30-32 Avenue Saint-Just in the borough of Outremont, has named François Bissonnette as President of its Board of Directors. For REALTA and its president, the appointment with the international puppetry home is a natural extension of their association with the International Puppet Festival “Les Trois Jours de Casteliers,” which was born and based primarily in Outremont. The puppetry home will be a site where industry professionals can come to create, exchange ideas and knowledge, and pursue training.
François Bissonnette says there’s much to be done before MIAM’s 2017 opening on the occasion of Montreal’s 375th anniversary.
“The simple fact is that we’re creating a non-profit organization from scratch,” says Bissonnette. “Among other things, we have to negotiate the long-term lease and renovation or rebuilding of the house and its landscaping with the municipal authorities, plan the fundraising campaign, and systematically explore all the available government subsidy programs. It’s an extremely important project for our community, and we are very motivated.”
To be continued.
